Let's hold Go classes once a month on Saturday to invite young people to participate
Many welfare centers are closed on Saturdays and Sundays, and some staff are not present, so Go classes are often held on weekday (Tuesday or Friday) afternoon when staff are available for management purposes.
However, many young people have to go to work on weekdays and can only attend Go classes on Saturdays or Sundays, making it difficult for young people to participate.
On the other hand, some welfare centers can hold Go classes on Saturdays, so please feel free to contact your local welfare center.
For example, the Hirakata group (building next to Keihan Hirakata Station) holds Go classes on the second Saturday of the month (not sure about other Saturdays) from 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm. Participants share the cost of renting a Go classroom. It costs around 500 yen per person.
Let's encourage young people and working people to participate in Go classes.

The Kansai Tournament is held with the aim of promoting exchanges and demonstrating the results of daily Go activities in various parts of the Kansai region.
It's been a long time due to the coronavirus, so we think there's a lack of practice, but first of all, we're going to take a new step.
We will inform you again as soon as the competition requirements are known.

Happy new year!
2023
Happy new year!
I wish you good luck and good health this year.
We look forward to working with you this year.
In November of last year, the 23rd National Go Tournament for the Visually Impaired was held at Osaka University of Commerce in Higashiosaka City for the first time in three years after overcoming the coronavirus.
I was able to meet and play with everyone for the first time in a long time, and I was able to realize a fun day.
This is all thanks to your support.
This year, we will make new proposals and establish a new Go class, which is a daily activity, and call for participation, so we ask for your guidance and support.
I would like you to cooperate.
We couldn't do any activities for three years due to the coronavirus, and there were no new students participating due to requests to suspend Go classes, and no new students entered our Go clubs or schools in various places.
While there is no new life, there are many people who are isolated due to curfews at facilities and who are forced to retire due to old age.
We will continue to support 9 by 9 board Go to convey that it is an easy-to-understand game that can be played evenly over obstacles, and that anyone can enjoy it. Therefore, I would like to ask for your continued support of the Go club, exchanges, and calling for new friends from one person.

Meeting with Board Members of Bay Area Go Players Association
In the middle of October, a mail was sent to us from Mr. Roger Schrag,
president of Bay Area Go Players Association, one of the largest go clubs in the United States. According the mail,
he is visually impaired, but he has enough vision to play go on a regular
board. He has some blind friends who are interested in learning to play
go, and he is looking for a 9x9 go set for the blind.
Thanks to kind arrangement by Mr. Mamoru Matumoto(http://www.facebook.com/mamoru.matsumoto), we, Mr. Miyano and Mr.Fukuda could see and talk with Mr.Roger and Mrs.Lisa
Shrag in Takatsuki.
We explained that anyone of the visually impaired could understand Igo
with imagination and can easily play games. Our request to make 9*9 Igo
be prevailed in the States is accepted by him. We expect future progress
of Igo in the States.
Following is the text uploaded in the homepage of Bay Area Go Players Association.
Blind People Play Go
Bay Area Go Players Association board members Roger and Lisa Schrag recently
met with Mr. Fumio Miyano (second from right in photo) of the Japan Go Society
for the Visually Impaired in Osaka, Japan. The Society produces special 9x9
and 19x19 go sets and Braille go books so that blind and visually impaired
people can play go. Black and white stones can be differentiated by feel, grid
lines are raised, and the stones fit into holes in the board so that they will
not move when a player touches them to read the board position.
The Japan
Go Society for the Visually Impaired also hosts an annual international go
tournament for blind players. There are some strong go players out there who are
blind. Nakamaru Hitoshi of Japan and Song Jung-taek of Korea, for example, each
are rated at 5 dan.
The Society has provided Bay Area Go with a special
9x9 go set and Braille go materials. So if you have a blind friend interested in
learning to play go, we now have the necessary equipment here in the Bay Area.
Contact us for details and to make
arrangements.
Until next time!

Igo Record by Mail between Mr. Nakamaru and Former Champion, Mr. Yamazaki
The record is introduced here and on this home page(Nakamaru's Igo records
4. No.150) for your reference.
The comments by Mr. Matsumura, Osaka University of Commerce are also shown.
The Black : Mr.Nakamaru with a handicap of 6.5 stones. The White : Mr.Yamazaki
Game date from June 4th to 12th 2012
43 66 46 63 67 76 77 36 56 37
74 64 73 44 65 34 62 52 72 53
51 41 61 42 48 38 59 47 57 55
75 45 39 29 49 28
(The game is over at 36th stone. The White won by 0.5 stone.)
Comments by Mr.Matsumura
Black should have made a 2-step hane of B35,W25 and B24 before the invasion
of B74.
White must follow by W34,B45 and W23 and then Black puts B74.
Then, W34 and B84 will make White in danger.
Even if White can escape, Black can catch two white stones by cut of B26
and stay in lead.
In the game, the connection of B72(19th stone) was the cause of game loss.
The 19th can block White at B42. White can not cut at W72 as Black puts
at B54.
White can temporarily make W55 effective, but can not fight for the connection of B75.
Black can stay in lead by putting B42 at the connection of B72.

Igo Playing Software "Takuchan" to be used with Actual Igo Board
Recntly we are receiving questions on how to use the igo software with voice "Takuchan".
The visually impaired can play Igo according to the Igo board image on
the monitor.
However, the blind can not see the board, and image the board following
the voice guide. This requires a very high level technique. Therefore,
we propose an idea for the visually impaired to be able to enjoy "Takuchan".
You prepare an Igo board with 9*9 or 19*19 lines beside the computer. Followong
the Pc voice of positions of the stones, you put the stone on the board.
You can confirm positions on the board.
You can download "Takuchan" from this Page.
